Intermediate Hurling Championship - Aghabullogue V St. Catherines (Relegation semi-final) Report Page

06/07/2009  Aghabullogue  1-11   St. Catherines  0-12

Aghabullogue live to fight another year playing Premier Intermediate Hurling following their well deserved two point victory over St. Catherines. St. Catherines started stronger and had opened up a five point lead before Aghabullogue responded with a point from a free from Patrick Finnegan. Patrick Finnegan continued to add another three points from free's before St. Catherines scored again. Eoghan Kennedy and Kevin Finnegan added a point each from play before half time and Patrick Finnegan added another point to the scoreboard from another free. At half time, the scoreboard read 0-08 to 0-07 in favour of St. Catherines.

Aghabullogue opened the scoring in the second half when Eddie Twomey accepted a hand pass from Dan Twomey and pointed a great score. St. Catherines replied with a point from play before Aghabullogue added another few scores to the scoreboard. Eoghan Kennedy, Paul O'Rourke and Patrick Finnegan added great points from play. The introduction of Paudie Twomey proved to be a worthwhile decision as he shot a rocket of a shot to the back of the St. Catherines net.

The sheer determination and commitment of the Aghabullogue men was a credit to themselves and they ran out well deserved winners in the end on a scoreline of 1-11 to 0-12. All of the Aghabullogue men fought as hard as one could ask for and will hopefully have more luck in the 2010 Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship.
