Aghabullogue must now face Watergrasshill in the
Relegation Final in order to retain their Premier Intermediate Hurling status
for the coming year. Aghabullogue stayed close to Newcestown for the first 45
minutes, however a number of goals for Newcestown over a short period of time,
gave Newcestown a lead, which they never relinquished.The first half was very close and at half time the score board read 0-07 to
0-05, with the Aghabullogue scores coming from Finbarr Foley, Dónal Twomey and
John Corkery. Aghabullogue’s goal keeper Denis O’Leary made a great save to keep
the margin to a two point difference at half time.
The start of the second half was again very close and with
a point from Dónal Twomey and a goal from Greg Murphy, the sides were on level
terms. From here, Newcestown pushed ahead and dominated the scoring. Despite the
efforts of the men in green and white, it was not enough to ensure a victory and
they now have to play Watergrasshill in the relegation final on a date yet to be
