Aghabullogue started their Intermediate Hurling Championship campaign on a very positive note, with an emphatic win over Kilbrittan in the first round of the championship. Kilbrittan were first to open the scoring with a point from play, but Dan Twomey quickly cancelled this out with another point from play. Kilbrittan added another point to their tally but following a well executed hand pass by Dan Twomey, Patrick Finnegan added another point for Aghabullogue. Kilbrittan added another point but with two points from free's from Patrick Finnegan, Aghabullogue went one point ahead. Kilbrittan added further points from play but two further points from free's from Patrick Finnegan, kept Aghabullogue well in touch. Aghabullogue finished the first half the stronger and with a point from play from Dan Twomey and two further points from free's from Patrick Finnegan, the half time scoreline read 0-09 to 0-07 in favour of Aghabullogue.

Kilbrittan again opened the scoring in the second half but again Patrick Finnegan stepped up to the mark with another long range point from a free. Despite the best efforts of the Aghabullogue defence, Kilbrittan struck the back of the Aghabullogue net with a goal, which gave them a lead of one point. Kilbrittan could have gone further into the lead but an inspiring save from Aghabullogue goalie Finbarr Foley, kept the difference between the sides to a single point. Dan Twomey added a further point from play and with four further points from free's from Patrick Finnegan, Aghabullogue were well on the road to a deserved victory. Kilbrittan closed the scoring with a point from a free but victory was with the Aghabullogue men on a final scoreline of 0-15 to 1-09.
