28/08/2011 Castletownebere 3-07 Aghabullogue 3-06
Despite a very determined second half performance by the Aghabullogue men in the 1/4 final of the Intermediate Football Championship, they were very unfortunate to lose to Castletownebere on Sunday 28th August.
Castletownbere opened the stronger of the two sides in the first half and had a tally of 2-02 on the scoreboard before Aghabullogue's centre forward-John Kelleher opened the scoring for Aghabullogue with a great point from play. Patrick Finnegan added another point from a free for Aghabullogue, leaving the half time score read 2-02 to 0-02.
The second half proved to be a much closer affair with a total of 4 goals being scored between the two sides! Early in the second half, points were exchanged between the sides with the Aghabullogue scores coming from John Hogan. Aghabullogue were awarded a penalty when Barry Kiely was fowled in the Castletownbere square and Patrick Finnegan stepped up and struck the ball to the back of the net. Castletownbere repsonded quickly with a goal but Aghabullogue upped the ante and with two further goals courtesy of Patrick Finnegan from a penalty and Paul O'Rourke, there was just three points between the sides. Aghabullogue finished the stronger of the two sides and despite
further points from Patrick Finnegan from a free and Paudie Twomey, it was not enough and Castletownbere ran out winners on a final scoreline of 3-07 to 3-06.
