11/04/2009 Adrigole 1-10 Aghabullogue 1-07
The 2009 Intermediate Football Championship got off to a disappointing start for Aghabullogue, when they were unlucky to suffer defeat to the hands of Adrigole. The game was played in Ballingeary and despite the best efforts of the Aghabullogue men, they were unfortunate to lose to the west cork side.
Aghabullogue opened the scoring with a point from a free from Patrick Finnegan. Adrigole were quick to cancel this out, but great scores from John Kelleher and John Hogan put Aghabullogue back in the lead. This lead was shortlived as Adrigole continued to put more points on the scoreboard. Minutes before the half time whistle, Ian O'sullivan in the Aghabullogue goals made an outstanding save but Adrigole lead at half time on a score line of 0-08 to 0-03.
Adrigole opened the scoring in the second half, but the Aghabullogue men then upped the ante and piled on the pressure on Adrigole. Aghabullogue were awarded a penalty but Kevin Finnegans shot was saved by the goalkeeper. Following the save, Aghabullogue were awarded another penalty and Patrick Finnegan stood up and buried the ball in the back of the Adrigole net. Peter Kelleher and Barry Kiely scored exceptional points from play for Aghabullogue and Aghabullogue were at this stage only down one point. Adrigole then pressed ahead further when they found the back of the Aghabullogue net. A point from a free from Robert O'Keeffe and a point from play from Peter Kelleher were the last scores from the Aghabullogue men and Adrigole ran out winners in the end on a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-07.
Aghabullogue now meet Kildorrery in the second round.
