The Aghabullogue Intermediate Camogie Ladies got off to a great start in the 2012 Intermediate Camogie Championship following a great win over Tracton on Wednesday 25th July.
Despite a strong start by Tracton, the never say die attitude of the ladies in green and white ensured a great victory for Aghabullogue.
The first three scores of the game came from Tracton, however this was then followed with a point from a free from Ciara Murphy for Aghabullogue. Tracton
again pushed forward with a further point and a goal and the Aghabullogue ladies were trailing on a scoreline of 1-04 to 0-01. The Aghabullogue
ladies upped their game and with free taker Ciara Murphy on top form, and they reduced the deficit at half time to just one goal. The half time score
read 1-04 to 0-04.
It was Aghabullogue who started the second half the stronger and Ciara Murphy recorded the first score of the second half with a point from a well deserved free.
With just two points between the sides, all was to play for and Aghabullogue pushed ahead for the first time following a well earned goal from full forward
Caroline Kiely. Michelle Healy and Ciara Murphy both added a point from a free for Aghabullogue, which gave them a lead of three points.
Tracton responded with three points from play, followed by a goal, which again gave them a three point lead. The trojan work of all the Aghabullogue ladies allowed Aghabullogue to
push forward and Aghabullogue's Michelle Healy stepped up to the mark to score an impressive goal for Aghabullogue. Ciara Murphy added a further point from
a free for Aghabullogue and Tracton added a further two points to their tally, giving Tracton a one point lead with little time remaining. The ladies in
green and white showed great heart and determination and this work was credited when Michelle Healy again landed the ball in the back of the Tracton net, giving Aghabullogue a two point lead.
The final whistle was blown and Aghabullogue deservedly won on a final scoreline of 3-08 to 2-09. The girls now play Newtownshandrum and Sarsfields in the next rounds of the round robin championship series.
